Sometimes we don’t give the Devil enough credit.

satan

I think that sometimes we as humans simply do not give the Devil enough credit. He is far sneakier, far subtler and far more intelligent than we give him credit for. We try to rationalise so many things with our human intellect, and seeing things in the natural, or physical, rather than seeing things through spiritual lenses.
The Bible tells us to be wise as serpents and to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8

We are told this because Satan knows every trick in the book and he relies on us not believing the things that he can do.
Remember, he has supernatural abilities because he is an angel, a created angel. He’s not some weak, dumb, ugly red faced, horn headed creature like he is depicted as being. He appears as an angel of light, and apparently was the most beautiful angel created.
Seeing him as the ugly, red faced, horn headed devil makes him appear stupid and makes us think we would recognise him when we ‘see’ him. But what about when he appears as an angel of light?
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14
Many professing Christians don’t recognise him because they don’t think he can do the things he has done, and continues to do. He relies on our human rationale/thinking and counts on us not using discernment and being wise to his wiles.

I say this because far too many professing Christians are involved in things that go clearly against the Bible, but they don’t know it because they don’t think Satan is involved in it. But Satan is involved in pretty much everything that encourages us to sin against God and to fall away from the truth.

If Adam and Eve were tricked by him in the garden of Eden, and they had direct fellowship with God, then how much more so are we susceptible to his deception if we aren’t being discerning?!

This is not to say that Satan has all power, because he doesn’t, so please don’t misunderstand what I’m trying to get across here.
I’m just saying that we need to be more aware of the lies, tricks and deceptions that Satan puts before us in order to subtly draw us away from the Truth. We need to get the rose coloured glasses off and realise, and recognise, that there is a spiritual war happening for our souls.
Satan was in the world right from the get go and he knows the Bible back to front and inside out. He was there when it was all written after all. He even played a starring role in many of the events in the Bible.

Don’t be fooled and don’t be deceived by the father of lies. He’s out to devour Christians and if we don’t give him enough credit, we are going to fall for his schemes and the consequences won’t be nice.

The only way to not be fooled is to be spiritually born again, to have the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit within us so that we can discern the lies of the enemy.

(I’m saying all this because I see so many people falling for ungodly, sinful things that go directly against the word of God, and I’m trying to warn people to be careful. To be spiritually complacent and apathetic is very dangerous ground to be on.)

Don’t forget to read this post about people giving the Devil too much credit. I know this may seem contradictory to this, but if you read it you will see what I mean.

2 Timothy 3:13 – Word study.

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13

This is an interesting verse to do a word study on. I had no idea what the word ‘seducers’ actually meant until I saw it in a different version and looked it up. (It’s also important to look up words we think we know the meaning of because the world has changed many definitions over the years. Unicorn and gay are just two examples.)
It’s so important to be careful who we follow and believe, because there are many set up in churches by the enemy to deceive people.
In the Bible we are warned many times to be careful and to be wise so as not to be fooled, and it is for good reason, because we can be led away from God’s truth.

I’ll start with ‘evil men’.
Strong’s concordance #4190: “πονηρός ponērós, pon-ay-ros’; from a derivative of G4192; hurtful, i.e. evil (properly, in effect or influence, and thus differing from G2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from G4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively, calamitous; also (passively) ill, i.e. diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, i.e. derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners:—bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked(-ness).”

‘Seducers’ – Strong’s concordance # 1114: “γόης góēs, go’-ace; from γοάω goáō (to wail); properly, a wizard (as muttering spells), i.e. (by implication) an imposter:—seducer.”
Have a close look at this one. This one speaks about wizards and imposters who are out to deceive believers.
As I was doing this verse, another one came to mind. satan
“For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

‘Wax worse’ – Strong’s concordance #4298: “προκόπτω prokóptō, prok-op’-to; from G4253 and G2875; to drive forward (as if by beating), i.e. (figuratively and intransitively) to advance (in amount, to grow; in time, to be well along):—increase, proceed, profit, be far spent, wax.”

‘Deceiving & being deceived’ – Strong’s concordance #4105: “πλανάω planáō, plan-ah’-o; from G4106; to (properly, cause to) roam (from safety, truth, or virtue):—go astray, deceive, err, seduce, wander, be out of the way.”

I know I go on about deception so much, but there is much to warn about. There are so many preachers, authors, singers, actors, sportspeople and the like who are being used by the enemy to deceive. (It’s not just ‘famous’ people either, it could be your pastor, your favourite fb preacher or the person who sits next to you at church.)
They have been put there by the enemy for the sole purpose of deceiving. “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.” Matthew 13:25
It is so important in these last days that we not be deceived and led away from God’s truth lest we be part of the great falling away.
Please, I urge you to call on the name of the Lord and pray for discernment.
If you have been shown by the Holy Spirit to have followed a false christian (which I think happens more than we realise), then please repent and ask for God’s forgiveness.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
