“For we *wrestle* not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary* the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8
*adversary means enemy
I really do think that we need to understand that Satan has more of an effect on the Christian life than we’d like to think.
I know there are people that do the opposite also, give him far too much credit and believe he is responsible for everything. I honestly believe there is a middle ground though.
As the verses above state, we are in a war with an unseen enemy. And that war happens, especially for Christians, once we become an enemy of Satan, and we become an enemy of Satan when we become born-again Christians.
Before that, we were on Satan’s side, we just didn’t know it. “He that committeth sin is of the devil; … “ 1 John 3:8
But once we become that enemy of Satan, the gloves come off. He throws anything he can at us to try to get us to sin against God and to try to draw us away from God. We are very naive to think that once we become Christians Satan will leave us alone, and the fact that he tried to tempt Jesus in Matthew 4 is a perfect example.
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
And we must “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.“ James 4:7
He has placed many of his people in churches, on facebook, on blogs, in ministries, schools etc to deliberately lead people astray, so we need to be very careful whom we follow.
“But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.“ Matthew 13:25
