‘Lads and Ladies of Wisdom’ review – Character Corner.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

wisdompicAs you may have read on another post ‘Character building for Christian children’, I was given a copy of the Lads and Ladies of Wisdom curriculum for families from Kathie Morrissey over at http://thecharactercorner.com/ to review.
I will try to make this short and sweet so as not to take too long so you can head on over and get yourself a copy. 😉

This curriculum is the sequel to the Little Lads and Ladies of Virtue curriculum, and it is aimed at grades 1-6, although it can be “adapted for use with younger or older, by giving more or less for memory work, based on their age and ability”.
It is only $15 for the curriculum and $15 for the 270 activity pages. This will get you 5 months of daily lessons which will only take about 5-10 minutes out of your day.
It is great for anyone, including homeschoolers, Sunday School lessons or just any Christian family who is wanting to give their children a biblical view on wisdom.

What I love about this curriculum is the simplicity of it. I am not a very organised person by nature, so I found the simplicity of this curriculum great.
The lessons are well planned out and easy to follow.
For an example, I’ll use the first lesson to show what I mean.
First off, you get the items you’ll need so that you aren’t hunting around for them as you go, which saves time and makes things easier. (This might be a ‘no brainer’ for some, but for the unorganised folk like myself, you’ll need to know this. lol)
The lesson starts off by reading the definition of wisdom to your child/ren and then read the verse. Then you discuss the verse and what it means.
After this, you do the activity with the children, which is great for visual and tactile learners as it involves them in the lesson, they are not just being spoken to. Then you discuss it again and see what they have taken away from it all.
Then, there is a prayer at the end. There, simple as that.

There is a list of the items you will need, for the activities, at the beginning and most of the things you will need are things that you will already have at home. If they are something you don’t have at home, just use a highlighter or something to mark the items you will need for that week/fortnight/month, that way you will know what you need to purchase beforehand.
It is all laid out in detail so there is really nothing left to do but teach the lesson. There are also activity pages for the child/ren to do in order to help cement the lessons.
I found that it would help to only print out what you need, not the whole lot. A week, fortnight or a month in advance (depending on how organised you are) would be all you would need.
I also suggest getting your child/ren a folder each so they can put their ‘work’ in each day. That way they can go back and read it when they like. There is also a cute little ‘treasure chest’ reward page with ‘jewels’ they can cut out and stick on at the end of the week when they can say the memory verse and keys for the lessons.

This is such a great curriculum for your child/ren to draw closer to the Lord, but it’s also great to spend those precious few moments with your family doing this. It will be something they can look back on fondly when they are older and remember those times spent with family doing the devotions.

Now, here’s the best part. I have graciously been given two copies of this fantastic curriculum to give away, which will be drawn randomly after the 20th of April.
If you would like to win yourself a free copy, please comment below. And don’t forget to let your friends know about this great offer!

**Please note. I did not, and will not, receive money for doing this review. I was given a copy to try for my honest opinion. 🙂randomdraw1 randomdraw2

The winners >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If you didn’t win a copy of the curriculum, you can purchase the curriculum through this blog. If you purchase just the curriculum it will be $15, and the activity pack to go with it is $15 also. But if you purchase both together it will only be $26.
If you purchase through this link here I will receive a small percentage of the sale as this is an affiliate link. Of course you don’t have to purchase through this blog, but if you do, it will enable me to earn a small amount, which will help with homeschooling supplies or more character training curriculums etc. 🙂

  1. It would be a great addition & compliment our home schooling curriculum. Teaching our children God’s virtuous ways….paramount to reaching the hearts of the next generation.

  2. I love that bit in the Bible that says knowledge begins with the serving of the Lord. This curriculum looks like a great addition to any homeschool that would like to teach their kids true knowledge!

  3. Thanks for a great review – really helps to decide. Looks like it might work well for the family – be interested in seeing how I might extend the eldest…..even wondering about getting him to teach one of the lessons?

  4. I am not a very organised person by nature either, so it was very reassuring to read your blog and know that I am not alone. Thank you for the chance to win this wonderful curriculum that will help me grow great men of God xxxx

  5. Ok, lets get this ball rolling.
I am using a random number generator at Random.org. There are only 11 of you who have entered so your odds are good. lol
I will have to do two draws as there will be two winners.
So, here goes. Drum roll please.. haha

    • The first winner is Number 1. So the first person who commented has just won a copy.
      About to do draw 2.
And the second winner is Number 9. So the person with the 9th comment is the other winner.
Congratulations to you both. I will be in contact with you in the next day or two (need to liase with an American based person so need to allow for time difference) about your curriculum.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and enter the comp.
      God bless.

P.S. I’ve taken screen shots of the numbers but not sure how to ad pics to a comment, so I’ll add them to the post itself. 🙂
