Familiar (or demonic) spirits.

I have previously done a post about Psychics and where they get their ‘information’ from, and this one is going to be similar, a kind of extension if you will.
I am not a full bottle on all the different kind of spiritual warfare happening, but I do know a bit, some I’ve definitely experienced myself, and some I’ve seen with others.
I’ll try not to make this too long, but there are no guarantees with me. 😉

First off, I’ll start by saying that, before becoming a Christian, I visited a couple of psychics/tarot card readers, read my horoscopes, did some divination with different materials, did seances, read witchcraft magazines and heaps more. Thankfully I didn’t get deeply involved in all of them, I just sort of skimmed the surface and didn’t delve too deep.
I believe the Lord had something to do with that, even though I didn’t know Him back then.
I used to also be a drinker, which I have since learnt can open doorways to the (lower) spiritual realm, as can illegal AND legal drugs.
All these kinds of things are seen as just ‘normal’ things to do these days, but I am here to tell you they aren’t normal at all. Taking part in any of the things I mentioned above will open you up to the (lower) spiritual realm, the realm where Satan and his minions operate.
I’ll give you a bit of my background, which I believe led me to these familiar (demonic) spirits, a few of my experiences and then explain, with scripture how they are bad, and how God sees them.

I was really quite young when I was first introduced to this kind of thing. It was something that I only just remembered recently, and looking back, it was something quite bad, but I didn’t know it at the time. I don’t recall anything like that happening for a few years, until I was about 9 or 10. I had moved to a different town and made friends who were talking about similar things, things like ghosts and stuff. We did weird things in the back yard too, but nothing too major then.
I believe that was the main event that had got me interested in that kind of thing.
It was that same friend, who, years later (even after I moved towns and moved back again), I would do the seances with, amongst other things.
It wasn’t long after that that we fell out, and I moved away and didn’t go back.
I still continued with things like astrology, witchcraft, horoscopes and the like many years later. I believe these things
I look back now and really regret the things I did, but I can use it for good now, because I can warn others of the dangers. So, if you are reading this, it could be meant for you.

Here are a couple of my experiences that lead me to believe I was hearing from ‘familiar spirits’.
Being at high school, I could remember just *knowing* things that other people didn’t know. I had no idea how I knew, and I find it really hard to explain, but I would just picture someone, and think about that person, and I would be able to say something about them that was right, even though there’s no way I could have known.
I remember a night when I had a friend over for a sleepover and something really strange happened. I heard one of the bushes scraping on the guttering outside and got scared, and for some reason I really freaked out and started crying and didn’t know why. (It was more than just a fright about the bush scraping on the gutter.)
I found out a few days later that my Dad, who lived in a different state, had rolled his car around the date I freaked out. Thankfully he wasn’t injured and came away unscathed.
Another time I remember being out at a pub/nightclub with someone who had a crush on the lead singer of the band we had come to see. We were sitting in a seating area where the band would sit when they weren’t playing, and all of a sudden I told her that she should go and sit on the chair opposite where we were sitting because, when the singer was going to come out of the room they were in, he was going to sit there. (If I recall correctly, there were two seats next to each other and both were empty.)
And, sure enough, when he came out of the room, he went and sat exactly where I said he was going to. She was really shocked and couldn’t believe that I was right.
Now, I believe it was a familiar spirit, or some sort of spirit that wasn’t from God. I know it wasn’t from God because, for starters, I had been drinking, was in a pub/club seeing a worldly band, and there was nothing godly about the whole situation. Why would God give me a word of knowledge that would not lead someone to Him?!
There were more things like that, but I can’t remember them all, and I don’t want to bore you too much. haha

I believe there are many familiar spirits, or just plain demonic spirits, operating today with Christians, and the Christians don’t even know it. It’s very possible that they are hearing from familiar spirits instead of getting words of knowledge from God. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it before with others who are operating under lying and deceiving spirits but don’t know it. They think they are hearing from God, but they actually aren’t.

Now to the scripture part, if you’ve stuck around for this long. lol
Here is what God thinks about these familiar spirits.
“Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 19:31

And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.” Leviticus 20:6

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an ABOMINATION unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” Deuteronomy 18:1-12 (Capitals are my emphasis.)
So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;” 1 Chronicles 10:13
So, from just these 3 verses alone (and there are plenty more), you can see that God really does not like familiar spirits, or people seeking them.
If you think that using these spirits applies to you, then you need to stop and repent. Even if you think it doesn’t apply to you, check what kinds of things come to your mind, things that you probably shouldn’t know, and they may very well be demonic spirits. If you know things you shouldn’t know, and think it is from God, please, ask yourself if the knowledge you have been given lines up with God’s word. The Holy Spirit will never tell you something that doesn’t line up with the word, and won’t tell you things that do not point you, or the person you have gotten information about, to Jesus.
